By Peter Douglas

WHY not turn a trip back in time into an unforgettable culinary experience?
There are numerous dining experiences awaiting you along the historic Puffing Billy railway line.
As you take the slow, winding trip through the beautiful Dandenong Ranges, there are countless places to consider.
These options extend well over just the ever-popular cafe, too, where you can satisfy cravings much greater than just great coffee.
Among the stops where guests can plan a dining experience include at Belgrave, the Sherbrooke Forest, Selby, Menzies Creek and Emerald Creek.
Stops along the way also include the Paradise Valley Hotel in Clematis, which is situated right along the train line.
Full bistro and front bar is available, with a long-list of mouth-watering dining options.
Tucking into a well-deserved steak, while watching Puffing Billy steam pass, is an experience not to be missed.
Meanwhile, with so much to do at Emerald Lake Park, there is plenty to delight.
Visit with friends and enjoy lunch in the tea rooms, or pack a picnic and make use of one of the many tables scattered throughout the park.
Another hidden secret is the numerous dining options through Puffing Billy, too.
Among the regular dining events include the ‘Dine and Dance on Puffing Billy’ and the ‘Murder Mystery Dinner’.
Partaking in the former, guests can enjoy a first-class train journey, combined with dinner and live music at the Nobelius Packing Shed.
The train’s hosts will help ensure an enjoyable evening, as you make your way through winding scenery and a delicious entree, main and dessert.
Of course, that’s not to forget a ‘cheeky’ glass or red, if you so desire.
For something a little unique, perhaps a night of mystery and suspense is more your style.
‘Murder on the Puffing Billy Express’ will take you through the journey through the darkness of night to the historic Nobelius Packing Shed, where you will take part in solving a mystery while enjoying a hearty meal.
Guests are encouraged to dress up in 1920s to 1930s era clothing.
