Rewarding cafe culture

By Jodie Symonds

WHETHER you’re in the Yarra Ranges for the day or a longer stay, it can be hard to find places to eat that don’t break the bank.
There are many places around the Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley that offer amazing, wholesome food sourced from local produce without you having to fork out a tonne of money.
Because why waste your money? You could get something that tastes great and spend the money you saved on exploring what this beautiful region has to offer.
For the best cheap fish ‘n’ chips, head to Captain K’s Fish and Chips in the Main Street of Lilydale for a beautiful piece of fresh fish and some golden chips, or Chips Ahoy in Healesville for some crunchy calamari rings.
If you’re following the burger trend that has swept across Melbourne recently, a trip to Monroe’s Place on Maroondah Highway in Healesville has an amazing fried chicken burger – the coating is made with Doritos and only costs $14, it’s delicious.
In the Dandenong Ranges, the Puffing Billy Cafe has great food at a low price including the big breakfasts that are great value for money.
The Village Idiot Cafe in Belgrave has a huge range of all-day breakfast options including the avocado delight for just $16.50 and comes with two poached eggs, buffalo mozzarella, fresh tomatoes and basil.
