Water garden wonderland

The Blue Lotus Water Garden is gearing up to open its 14th annual Lotus Flower Season event.

Each summer, the Yarra Junction gardens transform into a wonderland covered in millions of lotus flowers and other spectacular blooms.

The flower season will run daily from 26 December to 13 April.

Spread over 14 acres, visitors can experience stunning lakes, spectacular fountains, amazing plant exhibits and some of the most breathtaking scenery the Yarra Valley has to offer.

One of the most popular attractions is the Giants of the Amazon, comprising of massive 1.5-2 metre wide waterlilies – among the biggest plants on earth.

The lily pads are so big they can even support the weight of a child.

This year, the gardens have a new feature which is sure to impress.

Kakadu Lagoon is a showcase of rare and beautiful native Australian lotus and waterlilies from Northern Australia, planted in a tropically landscaped lagoon.

There’s also plenty on offer for families with little ones.

The Flower Fairy Garden is a great place for young children to exercise their imaginations and have some fun.

On weekends and public holidays, the Fairy Queen flies in to entertain the kids, holding storytime in the fairy garden.

Children will also love the adventure activity which takes them on a journey of discovery to find the Giant Red Dragons.

So, for anyone looking for a day out full of flowers and outdoor fun, head to the Blue Lotus Water Garden.

The garden has a picnic and barbecue facilities including a brand new lakeside picnic area.

Alternatively, there’s an alfresco caf¨¦ located just inside the gardens with views of waterlily flowers.
