Best of both worlds

AUTUMN combines the best of both summer and winter – an ideal time to explore the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges.
This first edition of Tourist News in 2015 also marks my first as editor, and it has been a pleasure to profile such a vibrant and diverse region of Victoria.
Autumn brings with it not only a change in the weather, but a whole host of markets and festivals for visitors to the area to truly get a taste for its culture.
This edition, you’ll meet places and faces of the Yarra Valley that will impress and delight you. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a cup of coffee or explore the great outdoors, we bring you our picks for a great day out in the valley.
You’ll meet Ros Gilbert, a long-serving and passionate volunteer at the Healesville tourist information centre. We’ll also introduce you to other local treasures including some of the best fresh produce in the area and, as always, we’ve done the groundwork for you in finding local events.
Take a wander through yesteryear on the Healesville Historic Walk, a glimpse into the rich history of this colourful town, or read up on the best of Marysville accommodation.
We’ll take you ‘behind the scenes’ of the Warramate Hills, and you’ll discover the best cellars the region has to offer.
With Easter on its way, check out our suggestions for ways to enjoy a fabulous family celebration, be it a fun-filled day at the Warburton Easter Fund-raiser or a relaxing lunch at one of the many scenic picnic grounds. Kath Gannaway writes that ‘one day is just not enough to discover the amazing wealth of artistic endeavour and talent in the hills’ and I would have to agree – there is just so much to see.
If you need even more reasons to visit beautiful Sassafras we’ve got five for you, and our calendar is bursting with things to see and do in the Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley throughout the autumn months.
This autumn, step outside your comfort zone and visit a place you’ve never been for an experience unlike any other.
It’s a beautiful season, so get out there and enjoy it.
Peter Douglas,
Editor.
