IF you’d like to spice up your day (or night) with some romance and summer loving, there are plenty of options in the Yarra Ranges.
We’ve scoped out the region and it’s pretty clear we’ve been blessed with a cheeky little secret when it comes to the language of love.
Perhaps it could even inspire you to pick up some red roses, some chocolates and any other delectable items your special someone will love.
Sky High Mt Dandenong
Perched on top of Mt Dandenong is Sky High Mt Dandenong. Known for its lavish gardens and amazing view – Sky High has spectacular views that overlook the Yarra Ranges and Melbourne. You’ll travel through the beautiful forestry which ends with a view from the lookout platform. Sky High offers day and night panoramic views. It’s the perfect place to embrace a warm summer sunset at the picnic tables, or bring a picnic rug and look up at the stars. Be prepared to lose yourself in an array of deep thoughts (or kisses) as you watch over busy Melbourne. For a drive-in with a scenic view – turn the boot of the car into a dreamy comfy bed and watch movies on a portable device.
Kyeema Track – ‘The Secret’ lookout
If you’re someone who isn’t into public displays of affection, then the Kyeema Track ‘The Secret’ lookout is the perfect location. It’s secret, because essentially it’s a hidden gem – and isn’t as well-known as places such as Sky High. There is a short 500-metre walk to get to the views, which is suitable for any level of fitness. Kyeema Track is worth the walk, as the breath-taking views are amazing at any time of the day – however, best at afternoon, sunset and night time.
Mt Donna Buang Summit
While Mt Donna Buang is widely known for being an ultimate snow destination, in summer it is the perfect place to explore, embrace romance and enjoy the view. It’s quite a scenic drive, as you work your way up to the summit. Once at the car park, there are picnic facilities, gas barbecues, toilets and picnic tables. It’s a nice picnic area and could easily be used to enjoy time with your loved one. For more of a view, head up the Mt Donna Buang Summit tower which will take you 21m above the picnic area, providing magnificent views of the Dandenong Ranges, Yarra Valley, Melbourne and the alps. Unfortunately, access to the summit isn’t open in the evening.
Malleson Lookout
If you travel along Don Road, just out of the township of Healesville in a south-easterly direction for about 10 kilometres, on the right side you will come to Malleson lookout. It’s a quiet lookout, and is simply stunning as you can peak through the trees and view bushland, rolling hills and farms.
5 Ways, Kalorama
A beautiful spot for a romantic picnic lunch or dinner is the 5 Ways in Kalorama. Take a walk and enjoy the incredible views, looking out across the Silvan Reservoir. It’s situated on the Mt Dandenong Tourist Road, and is an easy viewpoint to access. Beautiful flowers often bloom and make the view more amazing. It’s a very romantic place at night.
