AT THE gateway of the Yarra Valley lays Warrandyte – located along the banks of the Yarra River, this sleepy town is abuzz when summer hits.
Not only can will you find families enjoying the tasty treats this town has to offer, but you will hear the splash and laughter of children cooling down as they dip their feet in the Yarra or even take a swim.
But one of the best kept secrets, known by only locals, is where to get the best ice-cream – just out of town at the Warrandyte Strawberry Farm.
This family-owned establishment doesn’t look like much from the road, just a small food van and a gravel car park – but in summer you will notice the car park filled and people lining up in wait for the best ice-cream they have ever tasted.
But it’s not all about the ice-cream – it’s the locally grown strawberries and homemade strawberry sauce that makes this summer treat so special.
They, too, make their own strawberry ice-cream, chocolate dipped strawberries and have even started making their own blueberry sauce.
There are no seats, so grab a patch of grass or eat standing – it’s well worth it.
So now you know a local secret – do you keep it to yourself or share it with the world?
