WHEN looking for delectable treats and delicate boutique stores the neighbouring towns of Sassafras and Olinda have it all.
In the quaint, tree-lined streets, crisp summer days can be enjoyed just meandering, stopping in at mouth-watering Devonshire tea outlets, browsing the antique shops, niche boutiques and various nurseries.
This melting pot of fine foods has 16 restaurants situated within a two kilometre radius – with six iconic Parks Victoria Properties all within five kilometres, including William Rickets Sanctuary, the National Rhododendron Gardens and Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens.
Whether you want to indulge your sweet tooth at the Olinda Sweet Company or step back in time and feel like Agatha Christie devouring a brilliant afternoon tea at Miss Marples Tea Room or explore the gourmet panty of Cream at Sassafras your tastebuds will be tantalised no matter what.
You can eat and drink until your heart is truly content, with Ripe, Sassafras also nestled among the petite shops and eateries there are various tea rooms scattered about.
Just 45 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, Sassafrass and Olinda are both metres from the top of the Dandenong Ranges ridgeline and possess rich history in the tourism industry of this area.
The town of Olinda was originally a logging settlement, however as more land was made available for horticulture in the early 1900s growth within the town was substantial.
Berry farming, dairying and flower growing became the main industries in the area with tourism flourishing.
Iconic eateries like The Cuckoo Restaurant, which has been attracting visitors for over 55 years, the Pig and Whistle Tavern and Pie in the Sky all have played a part in establishing the area in presenting a unique and entertaining dining experience that highlight what the area has to offer.
