With the stroke of her wrist, Tecoma artist Chrystal Carter can capture the memory of a beloved pet and transform it into a piece of art to last forever and a day.
Born in Scotland, Chrystal spent the majority of her life living in a coastal village of Northern Ireland before immigrating to Australia where she began her dream business, Pet Portraits Animal Artist studio.
No job is too big or too small for Chrystal, who has been creating hyper realistic pet portraits with a personal touch and exemplary attention to detail since June 2016.
“Art is in my blood. My late mother, also an artist, specialized in botanical art,” Chrystal said.
“I chose to specialise in animals as they hold a special place in my heart.
“I always try to capture the spark of life in their eyes that shows the world their true beauty and unique personality.
“I also focus on creating a connection between humans and animals.”
Always up for a challenge, Chrystal will create anything her client’s desire.
Kids and pets are invited into the Pet Portraits workshop where Chrystal uses a range of media to bring her portraits to life.
“Although my usual media is pastel pencils on black card, I can produce work with pencils, charcoal, colouring pencils, acrylics, oils and water colours, on any surface or material – I can copy any style the client wishes,” Chrystal explained.
However not only is it Chrystal’s undeniable artistic talent that makes her stand out among the rest, but it’s her passion and appreciation for the animal kingdom that truly marks her work as a jewel in the midst of the spectacular Dandenong Ranges.
“Animals make this world a better place. They teach us – they truly are amazing,” Chrystal said.
“Without them there would be only us, devoid of elaborate colours. We try to manufacture our beauty, but still pale in comparison to our animal counterparts.”
Pet portraits is at 1/1569 Burwood Highway, Tecoma, and is open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday.
