Smooth sound of autumn

By REBECCA BILLS

THE spectacular colours of autumn transcending over the deciduous vines and trees brings a unique transformation to the Yarra Valley countryside.
And one way to take in the serene surroundings is at the music events which are held at the region’s wineries.
Local winery Seville Hill hosts relaxing jazz days where visitors can sit on the terraced lawn under the shade of three large elm trees and take in the smooth sounds of jazz performed by the Chris Dal Trio and Friends.
Owner John D’Aloisio said during the growing season, visitors can still come to the winery, listen to wonderful jazz and see what happens when the wines are being made.
Mr D’Aloisio said the Summer Jazz Music events that run from September through to April each year were created to give young jazz musicians a platform to perform.
“My son is a musician and it is his trio that have performed here since 2004,” he said.
“When he was in high school meeting a lot of friends who also were into music and we decided to run these events basically to get the kids to perform in front of people and get a bit more experience.
“There are now around 20-odd musicians who change on a weekly basis that play with the original three.”
Mr D’Aloisio said the musicians play either classical or old style jazz and always put their own take to the music.
Another music event over autumn at local winery Rochford is A Day on the Green featuring Hunters and Collectors on 22 March.
Summer Jazz at Seville Hill will be held on 2, 16 and 30 March as well as the 13 and 27 of April.
The event is free of charge and located at Seville Hill Winery, 8 Paynes Road, Seville.
