1. Post Office Rocking Horse
The rocking horse outside the post office in Main Street has entertained local kids and captivated visitors for three generations. Still costing only 20 cents, the ride has become a Healesville icon. It can be found outside the door of the post office.
2. Healesville Sanctuary
The sanctuary was established in 1934 and has since become the pride of Healesville. Visitors come from around the globe to encounter native Australian wildlife such as platypi, kangaroos, echidnas and koalas. Located on 30 hectares of land in Healesville, the sanctuary is also home to the Australian Wildlife Health centre and is heavily involved in conservation efforts.
3. Yarra Valley Tourist Railway
A ride unlike any other, the heritage trolleys offer a unique view of the Yarra Valley while experiencing a piece of history. The round trip takes 30 minutes and passengers ride a Walker RM22 Railmotor. 4. Cafes
The cafe scene in Healesville rivals that of any city, and there are some truly exquisite experiences to be had in cafes around the town. 5. Badger Weir Picnic Area
An ideal location for an outdoor picnic or walk, Badger Weir boasts fern gullies, mountain streams and various walking tracks. Hollow old trees provide homes for native wildlife and kids can splash in the water. The grounds are also perfect for birdwatching and nature photography. The Badger Weir Picnic area is open daily from 8am to 9pm from December 1 to January 31 and 8am to 6pm from February 1 to the end of daylight savings.
