WHILE Lilydale is the gateway to the three highways, the township of Wandin at the heart of the fruit and berry growing district of the valley, is truly the ‘welcome to’ gateway to all the Warburton Highway has to offer.
Mont De Lancey Historic Homestead and Warratina Lavender Farm are two of Wandin’s most popular attractions and a great way to start an outing along the Warburton Highway.
It’s notable, among other things, for its many townships – Wandin, Seville, Woori Yallock, Launching Place, Yarra Junction, Wesburn, Millgrove and Warburton. Branching off, you’ll find yourself driving through rural hamlets such as Hoddles Creek, Yellingbo and Powelltown and at the very end of the line East Warburton, McMahon’s Creek and the Upper Yarra Dam.
From U-pick berries and boutique cellar doors to fishing in the upper reaches of the Yarra River, bushwalking, bike riding, shopping at boutique family-owned shops, taking in a live show or exhibition, chilling out with a pub meal, or a picnic, the Warburton Highway is a great option for a day trip or a full-on holiday.
