ALTHOUGH Melbourne’s famed Spring Racing Carnival is starting to cool down, racing action in the Yarra Ranges is starting to heat up.
The region offers some of the most picturesque, enjoyable race-meet opportunities, with the historic and incredible facilities at Yarra Glen and Healesville providing the ultimate backdrop for a great day out.
And with the fantastic wines of the Yarra Valley flowing freely, why wouldn’t you take up the offer.
Whatever type of day-out you’re after, you can be assured there will be something for everyone – be it securing a marquee or simply grabbing some friends and a picnic rug.
Yarra Valley Racing will be hosting many fantastic meets over the summer months, including the Harness Christmas Race Day on 9 December, the Christmas Race Day on Friday 16 December, and the Kids Race Day on Thursday 29 December.
The Kids Race Day meet, just before the New Year, presents a great way to wind down during the holiday period.
Bring the family and friends – perhaps even pack some of the left-over food from your mighty Christmas Day lunch.
Chill out by the front lawns and enjoy a strong local race program.
Other top events over the warmer months include the Chill Out Race Day on Tuesday 10 January and the Mid Summer Race Day on Saturday 21 January.
But the racing action doesn’t stop there, with the Blue Diamond Stakes Day to feature on Saturday 25 February and the Jack Hirsch Memorial Yarra Valley Cup on Sunday 19 March.
Meanwhile, at the Healesville Races, the meets include the ever-popular Christmas Race Meeting on Saturday 10 December.
Just before the busy Christmas period, why not treat yourself to a fantastic day out.
Gates open at 11am with the first race to set off at 1pm.
There are free activities for children, including animal farm, jumping castle, pony rides, running races and more.
Canteen and bar are available on-course, or BYO food and drink is permitted.
Also, the Healesville Cup will feature on Saturday 14 January.
The Summer Race Meeting will be held on Saturday 11 February and the Golden Thong Picnic meeting held on Saturday 1 April.
