Fruit at its berry best

By Jodie Symonds

THE aroma of fresh fruit picked straight from the tree is quite like no other.
You can’t get fruit more fresh than when you pick it from the tree yourself.
Many places around the Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley give visitors the chance to pick their own fruit to take home.
To handpick your own fruit most ’U-Pick’ places charge either an entry fee or a fee by the weight of the fruit.
You will stroll through fields of beautiful and colourful fruit, and will have the opportunity to pick your very own.
A wide variety of fruits can be picked including strawberries, blueberries, apples, pears, raspberries, and more.
After you’ve picked your fruit, some have a cafe with dishes filled with fruit that has been picked straight from the field.
They can include dishes like strawberry smoothies, milkshakes, pancakes with berry compote or apple slices and more.
You will then receive a bag of fruit to be able to enjoy in your own time.
