Boasting onboard experiences with a touch of dance, dinner, music and even murder, Australia’s favourite steam train, Puffing Billy, is making tracks in 2017.
Commencing its operation in Australia on 18 December, 1900, Puffing Billy travels 25 kilometres through the forest and fern gullies of the magnificent Dandenong Ranges, travelling from Belgrave to Gembrook.
One of two survivors of five experimental narrow gauge lines used to develop rural area in Victoria during the 1900s, Puffing Billy is a historical treasure with a twist of onboard entertainment to suit every passenger throughout 2017.
For the quizzical mind, an intriguing night of murder, mystery and suspense is up for grabs aboard ‘Murder on the Puffing Billy Express’, with passengers invited to dress in either 1920s or 1930s fashion attire. With prizes offered to the best dressed, the journey is bound to leave passengers asking, ‘who dunnit?’
But if it’s something slightly more relaxing travellers are after, nights of fine food and music are on offer with Puffing Billy’s evenings of live jazz and rhythm and blues. Served up with hearty meals, these nights are bound to ensure passengers have a night to remember!
However, if neither blues nor jazz takes passengers fancy, the new dining train offers travellers the opportunity to simply relax and reconnect with their loved ones, family members and friends in both the Steam and Cuisine after dark and the Steam and Cuisine luncheon events. With heated seats in the train’s dining carriages, Puffing Billy is set to ensure passengers of both a comfortable and enjoyable journey.
With so much on offer for the whole family at Puffing Billy this winter, chief executive officer, John Robinson said the events program was a unique and exciting aspect to Puffing Billy that kept people coming back to the iconic steam train time and time again.
“Our Steam and Cuisine luncheon trains and Dine and Dance trains are always popular and are great for groups or corporate bookings. Other favourites, including Murder on the Puffing Billy Express, Jazz on Puffing Billy Railway as well as Rhythm and Blues on Puffing Bill will be returning due to popular demand. We look forward to welcoming passengers, new and old, onboard Puffing Billy in 2017!”
