A Seven Acre Rock sunset is easily one of the most incredible things to witness in the local area, and it’s a spectacle that makes for amazing photo opportunities.
The Rock is a large granite outcrop located 8km from Powelltown, a small town 15km south-east of Yarra Junction with a mere population of 200 people.
Positioned 743m above sea level, completely unobstructed, panoramic views are provided of the Yarra State Forest and Bunyip State Park … on a clear day, you can even get glimpses of Western Port.
Accessed via Learmonth Creek Road, the 45-minute return walk is well worth the time and effort.
The untampered, winding pathways, surrounding tea trees and the typical mountain ash are just part of the experience.
When you reach the top, the views are utterly breathtaking.
Spring is the perfect time to visit Seven Acre Rock, because the weather provides supreme views and you don’t have to deal so much with the potential danger of slippery, snowy pathways.
In any case, the tracks are just that, tracks, so be sure to wear sturdy shows and rug up if you are planning to visit on a colder day.
Even when the weather is chilly, as it can be in spring, the views are still incredible.
There’s a feeling of utter awe as you stand on the rock, looking out over the valleys below.
The seemingly endless landscapes allow you to feel safe yet amazed at the same time, and the isolation encourages total relaxation and the opportunity to simply admire.
Seven Acre Rock is the perfect place to head out into the bush for an adventure, a winding walk and perhaps even a picnic, making it a perfect day trip.
