The sweetest picks

Bring the family and enjoy picking fresh berries and cherries in the morning and then relax with a barbecue at the nearby Silvan Reservoir for a great day out.

At Blue Hills you can experience for yourself the fun, romance and satisfaction of harvesting your own sweet, ripe berries and cherries seasonally or purchase fresh picked from the farm gate.
Owned and operated by Kevin and Tracey Chapman, Blue Hills is built on generations on farming knowledge to ensure customers receive the best quality fruit the Yarra Valley and Dandenong ranges has to offer.
“The Chapman family have farmed in Silvan since 1894 and are best known for their quality fresh and frozen fruit and provision of ‘pick your own’ or U-Pick berries,” Tracey explained.
“My husband, Kevin, grew up and worked on the farm until officially taking over in 2010, so I guess you could say that he has a lifetime of experience in the industry.”
Not only does the Chapman family offer the opportunity to pick fresh raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, boysenberries, blueberries and cherries during season times, they also provide customers with a gift shop that stocks delightful handmade treats from local artisan producers and sample the berry jams made at the farm.
“Delicious handmade products are available for purchase in the gift shop. Visitors can sample berry jams made at the farm and takeaway food is available from our kiosk on the weekend,” Tracey said.
Using integrated pest management (IPM) to reduce the need for chemicals, Blue Hills also use sustainable food practices, with some of their crops are 100 per cent chemical free.
“We’re open from November to the end of April but fruit availability can vary daily due to fruit maturity and weather,” Tracey said.
“It is important to check the fruit report on our website the night before you visit to ensure fruit availability and avoid disappointment.”
Blue Hills Berries and Cherries sites are at 27 Parker Road and 30 Chapman road, in Silvan, and open 9am to 5pm seven days from November to February and 9am to 5pm Tuesday to Sunday from February to April.
